Mehedi Khan is an expert on issues of urban planning, affordable housing and the planning act.
Mehedi Khan is an urban planning consultant and the founder of Muslims in Public Space (MiPs), a new planning and design project that works at the intersections of public space, art and Muslim identities. Muslims in Public Space wishes to use Islamic Art to help reshape public parks and public spaces and to fill a critical void in the urban planning process.
Mehedi grew up in Toronto's inner city in public housing - an experience that informs his efforts of advocating for better city planning. He holds a Masters of Environmental Studies with a specialization in urban, community and regional planning from York University. He has a multidisciplinary background in policy, research, engagement, and design and is currently working on complex suburban mall redevelopments. He is working towards redeveloping underutilized suburban malls into mixed-use complete communities that include housing, public parks and access to transit.
