Ganiyat is an expert on issues of Intersectionality, Neo-colonialism in Africa, Islamophobia and systemic racism in Alberta.
Ganiyat Sadiq (she/her) is a fourth year Political Science and International Relations student at the University of Calgary.
On her campus, Ganiyat sits on the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Taskforce, the Inclusion and Equity Student Council, the International Relations Club, and the African Caribbean Student Association.
These advocacy and leadership positions exemplify her long standing passion for anti-racism activism, gender equality, anti-islamophobia activism, particularly in the realm of the intersectionality of the issues faced by Black and Racialized individuals. These interests are reflective of the @IAmXMovement, a social community founded by Ganiyat that seeks to raise awareness of the injustices faced by BIPOC as well as provide a safe space to share their experiences.
She also co-founded and serves as the President of the Black Inclusion Association, a novel non-profit that aims to achieve equity and social justice for Black Albertans. Through personal advocacy, Ganiyat has extensive research and expertise on the intersectionality of the issues faced particularly by Black Muslim Women. Likewise, she is currently researching the neo-colonial practices utilized to subordinate the Global South.
