Title: Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Movement specialist for Pregnancy and Birth, Birth Rights Advocate
Expert Overview
Asma Rahman is an expert on issues of pregnancy, birth, birth outcomes, postpartum mental health and postpartum recovery.
Asma's introduction to Birth Work came with the birth of her first born. Navigating the birth world as a mother and as a doula, Asma quickly recognized the lack of basic education around pregnancy and birth, and the need to advocate for better, evidence-based, respectful care. To address this, she founded Ruh Doula Care and Birth With Ruh - services and programs that aim to look at parturition from a faith and evidence-based lens. She is also one of the founders of Ontario Muslim Doulas & Birthworkers, and is currently also an instructor with Doula Training Canada.
Asma is constantly looking to better her skills as a Birth Worker. She is also an Evidence-Based Birth Instructor and a certified Body Ready Method professional, specializing in functional mobility for pregnancy, birth and beyond. Asma strongly believes that birth work is community work. Her work is rooted in accessibility, anti-racism and advocacy. She believes that healthy parents and valued children are an integral part of a strong community, and is actively working towards making this a reality.
