Dr. Ahmed Hassan is an expert on issues of addiction, trauma, concurrent disorder, Muslim mental health, PTSD and mood disorders.
Dr. Hassan is an addiction psychiatrist and a clinician scientist at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Toronto.
He completed his psychiatry residency, mood and anxiety fellowship and Addiction fellowship at the University of Toronto. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He has a particular research interest in the bio-psycho-social and spiritual aspect of addictions, improving the care for patients with concurrent disorders with a focus on patients with both substance use disorder and stress-related disorders including trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
