Thamina Jaferi is a Senior Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Consultant at Turner Consulting Group. She is a lawyer by profession who always had a passion for human rights, EDI and utilizing her legal expertise and skills towards ensuring that workplaces and service environments are as inclusive as they can be of diversity.
Her work experience has spanned a variety of public and private sector organizations including the federal and provincial governments, municipal transportation industry, higher education, and entertainment. She currently sits on the Board of the Mosquers Film Festival which is a festival that strives to amplify diverse Muslim narratives and stories of Muslim filmmakers across Canada and the world.
Thamina is very passionate about increasing on-screen and behind-the-screen representation and diversity within the creative industries. She herself has a creative side that has included stand-up comedy and creative writing in order to express her identity and build bridges between diverse communities.
Her lived experience as a second generation hijab-wearing Muslim Canadian woman of South Asian origin has informed much of her equity lens and as a result she is intimately familiar with the ways in which systems perpetuate inequities and discrimination. She is very eager to learn from others and work with organizations collaboratively on developing strategies and plans to address inequity and promote EDI within their operations.
She has experience in EDI and general public speaking engagements, EDI policy review and development, training development and delivery, creation of EDI Advisory Committees and Councils, and EDI issues management.
