Mehmet Tohti is the Executive director of the Ottawa based Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project, an organization that aims to be the most credible, reliable and effective Uyghur organization representing the strongest Uyghur voice in Canada. URAP has participated in various parliamentary hearings drawing awareness and recognition of the plight of Uyghurs in China and having it recognized as a genocide.
Mehmet has received the CSRDN award for service to humanity and the Justice for All award for Uyghur Advocates of the year.
Mehmet has lived experiences being cut off from his family for 31 years because of his being a vocal advocate for Uyghur rights.
